Indian Milkmen

The Indian Milkmen were people who migrated in hopes of a better life for their families.

In the early 20th century, these men migrated from Tamil Nadu in South India and Uttar Pradesh to Singapore. They initially catered mainly to the Sikh households and Indian community, but expanded to the rest of the communities in Singapore as the trade thrived in the 1930s.

In this segment, the life of an Indian Milkman will be presented in three categories: settling in, new beginnings and life struggles. You will also be accompanied by the stories of Mr Supramaniam Vasagar while you view the artefacts.
