In this segment, the unity of the Malay fishermen will be highlighted as they gathered and connected with each other with different activities. Besides life around sea, the culture they had was also strengthened because of their gatherings around the small island.
A Malay gathering
This postcard belonged to a collection that provides a glimpse into the physical and social landscape of Singapore between 19th to 20th century, depicting a gathering of Malay males in front of a hut. It reflects the close bond forged across the generations.

The fishermen showered together in rivers and it was a way of life for them. This forged a strong bond among the men in villages.

Masjid Sultan
The children used to play along the mosque and their seaside kampong.
This location is located in the area of Arab street and Bugis, which was recorded as a conservation area and was a key location for the communities in both the past and present.
